Parent Education

Parenting support that builds confidence, skills, and stability.

Parenting is a journey, and every family experiences moments of change along the way. Our parent education programs offer practical tools, emotional insight, and real-life support to help caregivers feel more confident, connected, and supported.

These programs are open to all parents and caregivers, whether you’re joining by choice or through a court or agency referral.

What Parents Learn

Parent education offers structured lessons and meaningful opportunities to grow parenting skills in ways that feel practical and supportive. Our programs help caregivers better understand:

  • Child development and emotional needs at different ages
  • Positive, non-violent discipline strategies
  • Communication skills and emotional regulation
  • Trauma-informed parenting practices that recognize how experiences shape behavior

Education around parenting, discipline, and child development gives caregivers tools to better understand, guide, and connect with their children.

How Learning Happens

We recognize that everyone learns differently. That’s why our programs use a variety of teaching methods to meet individual needs, including:

Guided discussion and instruction

Videos and visual learning tools

Hands-on activities and role-playing

Group conversation and shared reflection

Written materials and take-home resources

Active Parenting: First Five Years is a comprehensive, video-based discussion program designed to support families during early childhood—a period of rapid growth and change.

The curriculum is organized around four core areas:

You and Your Child
Explores parenting styles, stages of development, bonding, and thoughtful decision-making in early parenting.

Preventing Problems
Focuses on understanding a child’s developing brain, using non-violent discipline, and the “A-C-T” approach to parenting.

Encouraging Positive Behavior
Highlights the power of encouragement, choices and consequences, and caring for the caregiver.

Preparing for School Success
Covers practical steps parents can take to help young children build skills for school readiness and confidence.

The program blends discussion, video learning, and practical examples to support everyday parenting decisions.

Best for: Parents and caregivers of school-age children

Active Parenting supports families raising children ages 5 to 12, helping parents guide behavior while fostering responsibility, cooperation, and independence.

The program is rooted in Adlerian psychology, which emphasizes:

  • Mutual respect between parents and children
  • Personal responsibility and choice
  • An authoritative (not permissive or punitive) parenting approach

Parents learn practical skills such as:

  • Using natural and logical consequences
  • Understanding the goals behind children’s behavior
  • Holding effective family meetings
  • Encouraging cooperation and problem-solving
  • The curriculum also includes strong communication tools—often referred to as “Active Communication”—that help parents build empathy, listen effectively, and support emotional understanding.
Best for: Parents seeking flexible, evidence-based strategies across many family situations

Families may participate in one or more programs depending on their situation, child’s age, and referral requirements. Our team works with parents and caregivers to help identify the best fit.

Outcomes Families Carry Forward

The skills built through parent education extend well beyond the classroom. Families often experience:

  • Stronger parenting skills and greater self-trust
  • Healthier parent-child relationships
  • Increased readiness for unsupervised visitation, when appropriate
  • A stronger foundation for long-term stability and reunification
